I did it last year and things didnt work out so well.

Tho im hopeful next year is the year!

So what do i look forward to ?

1. A green light to a sequel to "The Hangover"

It was by far the best movie of the year, i was waiting for a bunch of adults to jump into the teen formula of problem after problem. it worked and Bradley Cooper is someone ive liked since Wedding Crashers.

2. Bradley Cooper in the A Team

Yeah its a remake, and chances are it will suck, cos 70% of remakes suck, but ill watch it anyway, i expect big things from this guy in 2010.

3. Tomorrow When The War Began

Yeah an OZ film, but im hopeful. Just dont stuff it up!

4. The World Cup

Australia play Serbia, Ghana, and Germany, i have no clue how it will turn out, but i just hope we do well. Id love to meet England in the next round, its a tough task.

5. The next Disney/pixar film

UP was fantastic and i can only assume the great films will continue. There writers are fantastic.

So ill leave it at 5 items for now. Let me know if anything should be added.

This one I've had in my car for a while, in fact the whole album "Conditions" is fantastic. We get an artist over here that comes along every few years and you just know they will surpass expectations.

Oh but if you dont like coldplay/U2, then give it a miss.

Ive looked at movies for the most part on here, so here is a list of the top musicians from down under. I picked 6, and tried to keep it modern.

1. Kate Miller - Heidke

Ive mentioned her before, former opera singer, georgous, and my fave song of the year.

2. Powderfinger

Literally the most under rated band world wide.

3. Eskimo Joe

I didn't really like these guys for some time, there older stuff is really rough. But over time things thinned out, and we have this gem.

4. Lisa Mitchell

An oz idol contestant, she didn't make it as far as many hoped, but she is a wizz on guitar and angelic in voice. I like her that much im posting 2 videos.

5. John Butler Trio

I just love the style of music. Tallent!

6. Ben Lee

Not to every ones taste, but he is talented, as seen by this clip of him covering MGMT

New Olympic sport : Landing a plane on water

Forget Sulley landing in New York, a Cleo bachelor of the year landed a plane on water saving 10 lives in Australia!

Seems everyone is into it, im betting it will probably become a sport and make the Olympics soon enough.

Longest water slide in a plane gets the gold ....

Well according to IMDB you wouldnt know it, with only a 1% increase in popularity, the Oz film Tomorrow When The War Began is said to be a big topic here and overseas.

Im not so sure of that, but ill do my part to help and speak about it in the vain hope someone will type in "war tomorrow" and accidentally click on my page.

Based on the John Marsden books, this really is Red Dawn done the Australian way, about a bunch of teens fighting an international army.

I do have high hopes for this locally, overseas tho im not so sure. For overseas fans of Oz cinema, id go see the Boys are back, with Clive Owen in it. If you liked Shine, same director Scott Hicks helms this one about an English sports writer struggling with his two kids while on a scouting trip to Australia.

Conspiracy Theory # 62 - The Hollywood Magic 8 Ball Theory

Have you ever seen a movie and wondered what drugs were in the water at the production company to green light the mess you were watching ?

Well my conspiracy theory this month centres around how movies are given the green light or are given the "old yella treatment"

The old yella treatment is just my way of describing how a studio says no to a great idea. They take it out back and shoot it dead!

Anyhow back to my theory, basically to decide the fate of a film the studios just shake a Magic 8 Ball.

It would explain how any Eddie Murphy movie made in the last 10 years was green lit.

This brings me to conspiracy theory number 64, that Eddie Murphy placed a huge bet with bookies back in the 80's under a false name that in the current time, any movie with his name on it will be box office poison.

There is one exception of course, and if i could go back in time and put money on a former American Idol winning an Academy Award for a movie staring Murphy and a former Destiny's Child singer, id be a rich guy today!

Ok well enough rambling, time to go watch old Wizards Of Waverley Place re-runs ....

I figured id list off my top five Australian films, and tv shows .....

Why ? Because i can and because im bored!

Film

1. Paperback Hero

This film came out back in 1998 i think it was, it stars Hugh Jackman before he became Wolverine! It tells the story of an Australian truck driver who writes romance novels. Probably my fave Australian romance film.

2. Shine

Alot of people dont like this movie staring Geoffrey Rush as a piano prodigy however i thought it was fantastic and Armin Muller Stahl is great in it too.

3. Crackerjack

This comedy was about an a-hole who became a member of a local lawn bowls club in order to get free parking. Its a great comedy!

4. Chopper

Eric Bana made a name for himself in this dark comedy, well if you can call it a comedy! Brad Pitt liked it so much he personally made sure Eric was cast in Troy.

5. Its a tie between all of the following films!

- The Castle
- The Dish
- Rabbit-Proof Fence
- Kenny
- The Rage In Placid Lake
- Happy Feet
- Strictly Ballroom

Yes, no sign of Croc Dundee which was just a huge 90 minute stereotype!

I also left Mad Max out of protest, seriously America, dubbing it in American Accents ? We are not that hard to understand!

Television

1. Packed To The Rafters

Family comedy, its funny, its sad, its heartfelt, its a little cliche, but likable!

2. Skippy!

Enough said, a kangaroo that saves a bunch of kids bacon week after week!

3. The Chaser's War On Everything (Only seasons one and two)

No longer on air, but they did provide plenty of laughs when having a go at the media.

4. Underbelly (Only season one)

I found this more enjoyable than most overseas crime series. pretty violent tho, word of warning. Good acting and suspenseful plot.

5. The Miraculous Mellops

This was an old kids show i watched, i include it because i liked the name and it was just crazy to watch, altho as a kid you really didnt see all the craziness.

Ok, so if i had my own TV station, and could green light any shows i liked, here are the shows you would be forced to watch week in week out!

1. McGyver - The pre-pubescent years

Yes, id love to see what good old Mac was like in High School. Did he get out of Gym using only the contents of his pencil case ? Did he pick up girls after thwarting the theft of the math test answer sheets ?

I want to know damnit !

The cast you may ask ?

Mac -Trevor Fehrman, he was in Cheats, and is also on IMDB
Mac's best buddy - David Henrie from Wizards Of Waverley Place, just look him up on IMDB
His other mate - Nicholas Braun, he was in Sky High, also on IMDB

2. DoJo

The story of a Dojo master and his young apprentice, by day, just normal folk, by night, a crime fighting duo saving the city from evil scum along with there side kick, Cujo the Labrador!

Dojo Master - Martin Kove, he was the bad guy int he Karate Kid movies!
Apprentice - Julia Ling from Chuck!

3. Lothario

the trials and tribulations of a young man who thinks he is a modern day Lothario, but unbeknown to him, isn't! Body swap comedy.

The Nerd -Kevin Sussman from ugly Betty, he's on IMDB
The Lothario - Brian Austin Green, yeah the old 90210 guy!

Ofcourse they body swap!

4. Milo & Otis

I loved this movie, and i see no reason why they cant have a little adventure each week! get Michael J Fox back and whoever played the other one too. Kids will eat it up!

5. Stolen Property

The tale of an old career thief who has an epiphany and decides to return everything that he stole back to the people who he stole it from, even if it means stealing items back from the people he sold them to. Also has to try and get his daughters out of the family business.

The Thief - Malcolm McDowell
His daughter -Emmanuelle Chriqui
His other daughter - Samaire Armstrong

So there you have it, 5 shows that would have a gazzillion advertisements in between them ofcourse. Why i don't have a job for an American TV network i don't know. This stuff beats most of the crap on TV.

If i had it my way .... Part II

Its that time of the year where TV networks spoon out that tiresome dross they call Prime Time TV to us. We are supposed to chew and swallow it like good little boys and girls, but who can honestly sit through an hour of "The Vampire Diaries". The TV network responsible for that mess should be required to hand out awards to anyone who sits through an episode.

Ill split this post into two sections, the second is going to harp on about whats new and whats old on TV in coming months, and the first half will showcase the awesomeness that would be my prime time TV treats for you to digest if i had it all my way!

Firstly tho, whats old ...

NCIS - I actually like this show, why ? Good writers, and a good cast make it enjoyable, so it rates well in my books.

The Mentalist - This is touch and go for me, a good 1st season doesn't mean a good 2nd season, but fingers crossed Simon Baker keeps everyone happy.

House, Fringe, Dollhouse and many others return, i guess of them all, the two above and Dollhouse are the ones ill watch. Also, Leverage was a show i really liked when it was on, apparently a new season of that will be up and running soon aswell.

As for the new shows, Flashforward is written by David Goyer, he helped write The Dark Knight, Jumper and other movies. Looks alright, but its a wait and see scenario here. Good pilot's dont always mean good series.

Glee actually looks pretty good, i saw the pilot and while it wasn't exactly funny, it was miles better than any High School Musical film.

I wont even touch Hank with a disinfected pool wand ... Im sorry but Kelsey, you can do better.

Melrose Place wasn't a show i watched in the early 90's, but im assuming its just Gossip Girl/Secret Life of an American teenager mixed with a few people past puberty. Ill pass!

Cougar Town isn't my sort of thing, and im not a Courtney Cox fan, so ill pass on this too, same with Eastwick which is just Charmed re-booted, I prefer Supernatural to any of these shows.

He oversaw Jessica Mauboy's album release and his first show will be tonight.

On a sad note, England won the ashes, Bolton lost again in the premier league, my cherished Wests Tigers lost to the Eel's but on a good note Lote Tuqiri could be signing on for the Tigers which would make him a total legend!

How much for a Burger, fries and coke ?

So Forbes helped conduct a survey on burger meal prices world wide.

Yes that's how much spare time they have over there .....

So these numbers are in American dollars because Forbes is an American magazine after all so we can forgive them for that.

But if your looking for a cheep burger meal, head to Johannesburg with $2.50!

Dublin you poor souls, having to fork over $9.16 for a meal, while in New York it's $5.99.

Euro lovers will not find relief in your continent, where the price of a fast-food meal hovers within the $7.00 range: In Amsterdam you'll pay $7.88, in Paris $7.43, and in Athens $6.66.

For less pricey eats, grab a hamburger in Prague for $4.91, in Warsaw for $3.86 oh and Tokyo has a burger meal at $7.04

So with this information, and an abundance of spare time, i factored in Air Fares to the cities in question, after all, its not just $9.16 im worried about <-- 16 cents, come on Dublin, round it up or down for god's sake!

So,
$1,712.81 will get me a burger in Dublin
$1,938.40 gets me a burger in New York
$1,849.11 and im no longer hungry in Prague
$1,870.16 and im happy in Warsaw

So i was told American troops in Afghanistan have there own McDonald's, and its going to cost me $4,082.78 to grab a burger there providing i dont have to bribe anyone at a security check point.

There is a McDonald's near me, but its a bad neighbourhood, so im considering the trip to the gan! Yes im calling Afghanistan "The Gan" from here on out, every city needs a nickname!

Anyhow im shutting up now, ive typed Afghanistan that many times in this blog im sure ill have ASIO (Australian version of the CIA) at my door in no time.

Plus i had to look up air fares to The Gan, so now im worried!

Worlds Ugliest Buildings ...

Well i figured id do a google search on ugly buildings or monuments, YES i was that bored!

Here are my top 5 ugly buildings or monuments.

1. Peter the Great Statue; Moscow, Russia

It's as if the builders just decided to make a giant iron jenga puzzle or a dedication to Baron Munchausen.

2. Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, San Francisco

This must be a bitch to keep clean!

3. China's Olympic Stadiums

In a double whammy the builders have birds all through china confused and disorientated.

4. McDonald's Restaurants World Wide

Well many have been rebuilt, i know our local one has been, but the old school ones suck.

Before i go, while looking for ugly buildings, i came across an article about KFC employees who used the sink as a hot tub and got fired when the photo's leaked. Picture below. At least it was good for employee morale and recruitment.

Well when i was a kid, one of the very first presents i ever remember getting from santa was a cassette tape player and a cassette from the Jackson 5 .... I realy wanted a Leggo pirate ship but pretended to love the tape and player anyhow.

Who doesnt pretend to love a gift! .... So over the years i got to love to J's music, all of them, MJ, J5, JJ, well except for LJ, she was weirder than MJ.

Well regardless, when i hit the age of about 10, dad, who was the CEO of a world wide toy company in its Australia area, gave me a gift he got from some guy he met.

Aparently some singer come out to Australia for a music tour and his toy line "Michaels Pets" was distributed by my dads company. At the time i couldnt care less, I still wanted the lego pirate ship!

This gift dad gave me was a signed personalised cassette tape of "Bad" by MJ.

At the time i had no idea, and to be honest had no clue that he was so big, or that my dad knew the guy at the time.

Over time i grew up, enjoyed the music, realised dads gift realy was a decient gift, and i still have it. Dont worry, im not selling it on E-Bay .... A time will come when my dad will pass and memories will be all i have, and while i didnt welcome the gift at the time, i guess that just adds to the memory all the same.

Either way, thats my tear on cheek on this blog for the year but ill leave it with three songs that i do remember from the Jackson family, and yep, one of them is from the girls! No No No No not LJ .......

1. Garret Dillahunt

If you have ever seen the TV show Life, this guy played the most intimidating bad guy on TV ever! Its a big call but i watch alot of TV and he wins the prize hands down. Shame how they ended it for him tho, i figured it would have been alot tougher to bring the fella down.

He also played a terminator in the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

2. Eric Bana

Cos he's just cool alright!

3. Josh Peck

Who would have thunk it ... little Joshua Peck grew up! He was last in The Wackness with Ben Kingsley and has a few movies in the pipeline. He also lost the baby fate ladies. Google Josh Peck and see what he looked like before he layed off the fried food.

4. Michael Weatherly

I love NCIS, its one of the few cop procedural shows i watch, and this guy is funny as hell in it. He can also kick some serious bad guy ass and is pretty smart, he reminds me of me in my office, always annoying the crap out of everyone else who's hard at work. He gave up his family inheritance to become an actor. But hey it paid off.

5. Neil Patrick Harris

Why ? Because he's Neil Patrick Harris, he's a qualified Magician, and he is really funny.

Whenever im in trouble, i just ask myself, What would Neil Patrick Harris do ?

So its been six months or so since i last updated my list of top actors. As i recall i had a list of 10, however this time im making two lists, top 5 female and top 5 male actors.

Im updating this because my choices change on a regular basis depending on what i watch and when!

Without hesitation, here are my top five female actors. The top 5 male will be posted separate.

1. Samaire Armstrong

Samaire makes it on my list for a number of reasons, shes cute, shes funny, she can act, and above all, she can pull off the short hair styles ....

I first came across her when i was watching re-runs of The OC (yes i have the dvd's, yes im a guy, and no i didnt just watch for Misha Barton, she looks like a mouse)

2. Yvonne Strahovski

Ive always been a fan of the show Chuck, and when you get to look at this gal each week, why wouldn't you be a fan. I was watching a behind the scenes section on the chuck dvd set, and when casting the role they had to find a girl who would make Zachary Levi look very average, hmmm they found the right girl ....

3. Anne Hathaway

I dont care what anyone said about the film, i loved Get Smart. I was a fan of the classics and it was good to see a movie version of the show including Anne. I will never admit to ever watching any of the Princess Diary movies, you can torture me all you like but i will not concede.

4. Leslie Mann

This girl is funny, which you would expect considering she married Judd Apatow, tho i still think shes funnier than him. I like a girl whos a bit of a smart ass.

5. Amanda Righetti

Another OC part timer, shes now on The Mentalist, and she also makes the cut this time because shes hot, she likes the other guy on the Mentalist, you know the one, the terminator! (He played a terminator on The Sarah Connor Chronicles for a short time)

So there you have it, 5 lovely ladies ive had my eye on over the last half a year. Eyes firmly on there eyes tho of course!

He has no less than 5 movies in the can already, including Joss Whedons next film "The Cabin In The Woods" and is next filming Marvels next comic adaptation Thor, playing the title character.

This young kid last appeared along side Viggo Mortensen in "The Road" and in other Australian productions.

Not much on his plate at the moment, but he's young so maybe high school is his priority, Id say he's a long shot to hit it big at the moment but has a hell of alot of talent.

Mia Wasikowska

At 20 years of age, she was on Variety's top 10 actors to watch. Cate Blanchett said shes a better actor than she was at the same age and she can also sing and dance.

Shes appearing in Tim Burtons Alice In Wonderland as Alice, and in Amelia, the biopic on Earhart alongside Hillary Swank & Ewan McGreggor.

You might remember this hottie from the TV show Chuck, well now she has moved onto movies and has a few already in the bag.

The fact she landed in LA from Australia and landed a TV role in under 3 days shows shes either incredibly lucky or an incredible talent.

Ryan Kwanten

Well he plays a sex crazed moron on True Blood, and apparently all the girls swoon over this guy. He's a great actor however at the moment he's pigeon holed to True Blood.

Not much else on his plate, but he has the popularity for a network or casting agent to give him a boost.

Abbie Cornish

Best known as the chick dating Ryan Phillippe, she does have impressive acting skills, enough for her to get a part in the next Zach Snyder production "Sucker Punch" shes also a diverse actor which bodes well for a hollywood career.

So they butchered Deadpool

I saw X Men Origins last week, and i cant hide my disappointment for a number of reasons.

Firstly one of my favourite characters in the x-men universe Deadpool has a story arc that's been completely turned on its head ....

He's known as the "merc with a mouth" so what do they do ? Sew his mouth shut ????

Laser eyes ? Adamantium swords ? Its as if the writers got together and wondered how they could make the bad guy any more lame ...

"I know, lets make him teleport around, heal, shoot lasers from his eyes, have no mouth, and have swords instead of hands!" <--- and these guys got paid to write this movie.

Epic fail .... How someone on the movie didn't put there hand up and say "wait a minute guys, what the hell are we doing ?" is beyond me.

The special effects are cheep, the love interest cant act and to top it all ... drum roll ... one mutant looks like a walking disco ball.

The only good thing about the whole film was Gambit, who ive liked from the 90's x-men cartoons i watched when i was little.

Give this one a miss if your a comic fan, those who are not and are looking for some popcorn action may like it tho.

Hopefully if Ryan Reynolds gets the green light for a Deadpool Origins film, they can redeem themselves because he did play the character well.

Ive only selected one today, but there are hundreds of potential patty flippers out there, i didn't go with any obvious ones like Eminem did in his new video clip, but more flippers will come sometime soon when i can be bothered adding another post on the topic.

How to catch a lion ...

After hearing about the Zoo that shot dead a lion who escaped from its enclosure even tho nobody was outside in the zoo at the time, i decided to run off a list of other alternatives in case any other zoo animal decides to go for a walk ....

Option A :

Ring a bell, and call its name, it works for my cat so why not a larger version!

Option B :

Take a zebra from a neighbouring enclosure and tie a rope around it, hoist it up into a tree and wait for the lion to come over. Once focused on the zebra, have someone sneak up from behind with a net ....

Note: If live zebra is not available, a zebra costume and two midgets will suffice ....

Option C :

Release Hyena's to eat the lion (they can, ive seen it on The Lion King)
Release a wild boar to eat the hyena's
Release a bear to eat the wild boar
Place a picnic basket in the bears cage to lure him in (Refer to any Yogi Bear Episode)

All seem a lot better than just shooting the lion ....

Hugh Jackman & Robbert Pattinson recently shared one, singing karaoke in a Japanese bar together, Hugh was there on a promotional visit for "that film which shall remain nameless!" and Pattinson was there for the premier of twilight ? I guess Japan missed the boat 6 months ago or something, because its almost on dvd everywhere else!

Back to the bromance!

For those wondering exactly what a bromance is, its a close friendship between two bro's that boarders on seeming like a relationship even tho it isn't. Often the bro's will partake in activities most regular couples would do, ie) Bowling, dinner, exchanging gifts etc

Academy Award Afterthoughts ...

Ok i said that Jackman as host would either be hit or miss, for me it was a hit.

I guess it depended on what you expected from the awards night, those expecting joke after joke would have been disappointed, Jackman tanked in the joke department, tho Tina Fey and Steve Martin covered for him very well ....

Those expecting a host that does more than just read off a tele-prompter would have loved the awards show ...

I mean come on, the dodgy Dark Knight motorcycle ? The Benjamin Button wall, and Hathaway did well too ... It wasnt as gay as i thought it would be, best opening to an Oscars in years!

I had a quick look at a few online blog posts on the topic and it seems to have been a mixed response, many younger people missed having more jokes, many older people loved having more variety.

So here is a list of what i liked and disliked ....

I liked ...

- Hugh Jackman's opening, reminiscent of Billy Crystal yet this one was live to air and he made it his own. Even when he was laughing while singing, it just added to the charm of him hosting and not taking himself too seriously.

- The slumdog kids on the red carpet, not afraid to show there excitement, autograph book included.

- The actor/actress nominees getting a personal message from each presenter made it a night to remember even for the losers.

- Ledgers family giving a short yet humbling speech on behalf of there son & his sister looking smokin!

- Tina Fey & Steve Martin

- Wall-E

- The lack of an Academy President's speech.

- Penelope Cruz's speech, shes so cute.

- Kate Winslett asking her dad to whistle, upon which he did! Yeah!

I didn't like ...

- Ben Stiller, you can do better

- Reece Witherspoon, because i just don't like you!

As you can see the positives far out weigh the negatives, and while i haven't seen any of the past awards nights over the years, I'm pretty sure this one was up there ...

Hugh Jackman's Oscar's

Well im going to admit, i have not watched the oscars in some time, Billy Crystal was the last host i remember watching, and a great one at that.

This year one of my fave's on screen will host, Mr Jackman so yes im returning for another viewing. I watched Hugh's Tony Award's hosting duties and he did pretty well, but i still get the feeling this years oscar's could either tank miserably with him as host, or soar sky high ....

My feelings on the topic were not helped when i read that he was doing a dance routine with Beyonce and the High School Musical gang ... ill reserve judgement.

One thing i would have loved to have seen this year was an encore John Travolta -Hugh Jackman sing-along, altho after the month Travolta has had i doubt he will even be in attendance.

So will he sink or swim, all will be revealed soon enough i guess, but please for the love of god just dont mention Van Helsing at any point on the night ...

Well im back with another conspiracy theory, and this one may get me locked up in a padded cell, but i refuse to be gagged, ill do my best to uphold the consiprasists code of never shutting up!

Lady Gaga errks me, i can forgive a young girl acting stupid, or a spoilt brat acting like a spoilt brat but Gaga is something else, she annoys me like a grown man using paint by numbers, or a kid throwing a tantrum in a supermarket because mum wont add the Milo to the shopping cart.

The conspiracy you may ask ? That Lady Gaga is a fictionary character created to sell records, a young girl lured into a music executive's limmo with a bag of candy ...

Gaga version 2.1 as she will now be known, is nothing but a cyborg, assembeled by music executives, here is the recipe ...

Ingerdients:
1x young vain girl with ambitions out weighing integrity
2x money hungry parents
2x music executives (with car rental until 1st single is released)
1x music producer with an auto produce button on his computer
1x stylist ? Oops did i say stylist ? 1x porn producer
15x kids to inflate ego

Method:
1. Take 2 music executives and mix with money hungry parents and stir
2. Add young girl without integrity and let sit for a week
3. Allow Gaga 2.1 to sit with music producer for 24 hours

A Bushfire Thankyou ...

Well its been a pretty hectic week over here down under, i opened my newspaper about 3 days ago and was told that on the 6th of Feb i was living in the hottest place on the planet, ten degreese hotter than Africa's serengetti ...

3 days later I open my newspaper to find over 130 people wiped out because of the fires. I live right across from the bushland and its a scary thought to think that flames 50 metres high could be seen in other places around Australia, my area was lucky, others were not.

Reading through some of the personal stories in the paper and written elsewhere, its pretty traumatic just reading them, let alone going through what some of these people have been through. I wont elaborate on any of them, if you want to read any www.smh.com.au has a number of stories and updates.

Three more things before i sign off, firstly, addressing the people who deliberatly light fire's, in particular the people who lit the ones this week, i was happy to read that once caught they will be up for murder charges, and for those who think they wont get caught, Australia has the worlds best fire investigation units in the world who's sole job it is to track down these people. They are very good at there job, and they will find you.

Addressing the fire fighters, not that any of you will probably get this message, but just a quick thankyou for your tiresome work, if i could get over there and help out i would, tho i know id just get in the way and make your job harder, so i just wish you all the luck in the world.

Finally, PETA, its at times like this that i absolutly loathe some of the things you do, spending money on silly advertisements asking for models not to wear fur, or suggesting people eat less meat, right now its a time where an organisation like you could realy do something productive, because as i type, there are hundreds of thousands of animals needing evacuation, needing water, needing medical care, and just needing someone to give a damn about them.

I love the Virgin brand, I really do which is why I continue to use it despite a series of unfortunate incidents over the last few years. This latest incident takes the biscuit.

Ironically, by the end of the flight I would have gladly paid over a thousand rupees for a single biscuit following the culinary journey of hell I was subjected to at thehands of your corporation.

Look at this Richard. Just look at it: [see image 1, above].

I imagine the same questions are racing through your brilliant mind as were racing through mine on that fateful day. What is this? Why have I been given it? What have I done to deserve this? And, which one is the starter, which one is the desert?

You don't get to a position like yours Richard with anything less than a generous sprinkling of observational power so I KNOW you will have spotted the tomato next to the two yellow shafts of sponge on the left. Yes, it's next to the sponge shaft without the green paste. That's got to be the clue hasn't it. No sane person would serve a desert with a tomato would they. Well answer me this Richard, what sort of animal would serve a desert with peas in:

I know it looks like a baaji but it's in custard Richard, custard. It must be the pudding. Well you'll be fascinated to hear that it wasn't custard. It was a sour gel with a clear oil on top. It's only redeeming feature was that it managed to be so alien to my palette that it took away the taste of the curry emanating from our miscellaneous central cuboid of beige matter. Perhaps the meal on the left might be the desert after all.

Anyway, this is all irrelevant at the moment. I was raised strictly but neatly by my parents and if they knew I had started desert before the main course, a sponge shaft would be the least of my worries. So lets peel back the tin-foil on the main dish and see what's on offer.

I'll try and explain how this felt. Imagine being a twelve year old boy Richard. Now imagine it's Christmas morning and you're sat their with your final present to open. It's a big one, and you know what it is. It's that Goodmans stereo you picked out the catalogue and wrote to Santa about.

Only you open the present and it's not in there. It's your hamster Richard. It's your hamster in the box and it's not breathing. That's how I felt when I peeled back the foil and saw this:

Now I know what you're thinking. You're thinking it's more of that Baaji custard. I admit I thought the same too, but no. It's mustard Richard. MUSTARD. More mustard than any man could consume in a month. On the left we have a piece of broccoli and some peppers in a brown glue-like oil and on the right the chef had prepared some mashed potato. The potato masher had obviously broken and so it was decided the next best thing would be to pass the potatoes through the digestive tract of a bird.

Once it was regurgitated it was clearly then blended and mixed with a bit of mustard. Everybody likes a bit of mustard Richard.

By now I was actually starting to feel a little hypoglycaemic. I needed a sugar hit. Luckily there was a small cookie provided. It had caught my eye earlier due to it's baffling presentation:

It appears to be in an evidence bag from the scene of a crime. A CRIME AGAINST BLOODY COOKING. Either that or some sort of back-street underground cookie, purchased off a gun-toting maniac high on his own supply of yeast. You certainly wouldn't want to be caught carrying one of these through customs. Imagine biting into a piece of brass Richard. That would be softer on the teeth than the specimen above.

I was exhausted. All I wanted to do was relax but obviously I had to sit with that mess in front of me for half an hour. I swear the sponge shafts moved at one point.

Once cleared, I decided to relax with a bit of your world-famous onboard entertainment. I switched it on: [see image 5, above].

I apologise for the quality of the photo, it's just it was incredibly hard to capture Boris Johnson's face through the flickering white lines running up and down the screen. Perhaps it would be better on another channel:

Is that Ray Liotta? A question I found myself asking over and over again throughout the gruelling half-hour I attempted to watch the film like this. After that I switched off. I'd had enough. I was the hungriest I'd been in my adult life and I had a splitting headache from squinting at a crackling screen.

My only option was to simply stare at the seat in front and wait for either food, or sleep. Neither came for an incredibly long time. But when it did it surpassed my wildest expectations:

Yes! It's another crime-scene cookie. Only this time you dunk it in the white stuff.

Richard. What is that white stuff? It looked like it was going to be yoghurt. It finally dawned on me what it was after staring at it. It was a mixture between the Baaji custard and the Mustard sauce. It reminded me of my first week at university. I had overheard that you could make a drink by mixing vodka and refreshers. I lied to my new friends and told them I'd done it loads of times. When I attempted to make the drink in a big bowl it formed a cheese Richard, a cheese. That cheese looked a lot like your baaji-mustard.

So that was that Richard. I didn't eat a bloody thing. My only question is: How can you live like this? I can't imagine what dinner round your house is like, it must be like something out of a nature documentary.

As I said at the start I love your brand, I really do. It's just a shame such a simple thing could bring it crashing to it's knees and begging for sustenance.

New Year's Fireworks

There is alot of arguement over which world city hosts the best New Years Eve Party, however i usualy just side with the fact that each is unique and different and great in there own way, thats why I make an effort to youtube the fireworks for all the major cities around the world, but ...

Yes this is old, but i dont care, it makes more sense than most of what you hear today.

Wear sunscreen.

Grosse Point Blank + War Inc

Having a look through my dvd collection i was trying to think of what film i would mention as my all time favourite. There are plenty of contenders, Any Frank Darabont film, Disney Classics such as The Lion King & Aladdin or for action junkies, Die Hard With A Vengeance rates high on my list.

However ....

I went for the odd choice, an odd film, quirky, kick ass 80's sound track that even Beckeye would appreciate you 80's child you!, John & Joan Cusack working together, Dan Ackroyd in something funny post Ghostbusters! and Jeremy Piven not being anything like the ass he is today!

What more could you ask for in a film ... and if you are thinking, well maybe John Cusack dispatching a hired hitman with nothing but a felt tip pen, well it has that too.

Got a chance to watch Wanted on dvd the other day.

I gave this one a miss at the megaplex because it looked over the top, plus it had Jolie in it.

Yes im that one guy in the world who does not like Jolie ... Shes smug!

Lets also add the fact that they changed the main character who was an Eminem clone from Liverpool England into well ... James McAvoy!

Granted McAvoy is from the UK and keeps part of his accent, but i had my doubts still.

Then i watched it ....

Then i watched it again ....

Oh and i liked it, both times. Infact i liked it so much it gets my #1 spot in my 2008 hit list of films i liked. 2008 was pretty thin when it came to making my hit list, infact my Miss List of 2008 had so many contenders i considered taking the top 5 and expanding it to a top 20, but ill stay true to form and keep both at five but today i post The Hit List.

Oh and go rent Wanted if you get a chance, its quite funny at times which i liked and the action aint bad either and its worth it just for the last line of the film.

The other two are there because they were films i watched more than once, meaning they must have been good to get a repeat viewing ....

I have to admit ive entertained the thought that my whole life could be a reality show, i have no proof to show that it is, but on the plus side of things nobody can find proof that it isnt a reality show either.

I guess i can add this as Conspiracy Theory #33 in my list ....

Yes there are 32 others, some of which i have mentioned.

This story also reminds me of Conspiracy Theory #17, in my list of theories, That Warner Brothers ripped off my idea for the Matrix as a 9 year old by colluding with my primary school teacher.

See when i was about 9 years old in 1990 i had an idea that we may all be hibernating somewhere and the life you see around you is just a dream. I wrote a short story about it in primary school and my teacher gave me a gold star for it.

Mysteriously my short story vanished from the classroom that week.

10 years later Warner Brothers made a gazillion dollars from it and im pretty sure my primary school teacher had something to do with it ....

I will be sending a strong worded letter to the Warner Exec's one of whom ill assume is a former primary teacher.

Now excuse me while i go visit the actors who pretend to be my friends ....

It’s difficult to remember a war movie where so little attention was actually paid the sequence of events or the equipment used. Given that it’s basically a story about an armoured incursion, it fails to show any of the real armoured vehicles used in the battle, using Korean conflict era equipment instead. Best of all is the climax where the tanks are stopped just short of the fuel dump. A real event, that happened at the start of the battle, not at the end.

Bridge over the River Kwai (1957)
Great performances and some reference to real events don’t change the irrefutable fact that the bridge is still there, and was not blown into tiny pieces by a dying Alec Guinness.

Braveheart (1995)
I know some people that love this movie, especially the Scots, but it’s almost entirely inaccurate from beginning to end. The list of mistakes and anachronisms in here is substantial. But a few highlights include; the appearance of kilts a good 300 years before they actually were worn, and Wallace seducing a women who was 3 years old at the time, and in doing so fathered a child born seven years after his death.

They can take away our freedom, but not our ability to make shit up!

The Patriot (2000)
Another English-bashing epic with Mel Gibson, and yet another that treats history as more of a guideline than an actual code. The nice guy Mel Gisbson plays is called Benjamin Martin, but is based on Francis "The Swamp Fox" Marion.

He wasn’t a nice person, but a slave owner who spent his life actively persecuting and murdering indigenous Cherokees. But then so much gets altered in The Patriot that characterisations are a minor issue. In the final engagement, the Battle of Guilford Court House, the Americans are ultimately triumphant. Sadly, in that particular real event, they lost, and quite heavily.

Maybe Mel should stick to romantic comedies.

U-571 (2000)
I enjoyed this movie, despite its revisionist view of how America won the war, and captured the Enigma machine so they the allies could decipher the German codes. To put the historical record straight is was HMS Bulldog that cornered U-110, and got hold of an Enigma decoder six months before the USA even entered WII. And, the Polish had already cracked the basic Enigma cipher without ever having a machine in their possession. So U-571 is all at sea.

Titanic (1997)
There aren’t really ways to describe how little regard to the factual events this movie has. It treats the true story of that night as rumour, recognizable only as deja vu and dismissed just as quickly. I accept that the characters are fictional, but almost everything that happens, with the exception of the ship sinking is utterly made-up, and very badly in most cases.

There are many good examples, but my personal favourite is the one where Jack tells Rose about fishing on Lake Wissota. That’s a neat trick Jack, because it’s a man-made lake near Chippewa Falls, which was only created when a dam was built on the Chippewa River, six years after the Titanic sank. Sloppy research Mr. Cameron!

Gladiator (2000)
I love this movie, but just about everything in it is made-up, inaccurate or just plain wrong. Marcus Aurelius wasn’t murdered, but died of Chicken Pox. Commodus didn’t die in the arena, but strangled in his bath by a wrestler called Narcissus, a full 12 years after Marcus Aurelius died. And love interest Lucilla was exiled to Capri and subsequently executed on Commodus’ orders for plotting against him long before his own demise.

Maximus Decimus Meridius is an entirely fictional character, who borrows from at least three historical figures, but represents none of them specifically. Gladiator is big on spectacle, but short on real history.

300 (2006)
Given that the events portrayed in 300 happened 480BC, so some margin should be given for how precise any depiction could be. But, contrary to the movie we do know that at the start of Thermopylae, the Greeks actually fielded 7,000 men all told. And they fought not half a million, but about 80,000 Persians. Not quite as impressive as the film portrayed, but still not bad odds. When the final battle came Leonidas had his 300 Spartans plus 900 Helots and 700 Thespians at his disposal. So counting isn’t a strong point of ‘300’.

Pearl Harbor (2001)
This film gets one fact right, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on the morning of December 7th 1941. Almost everything else is mucked up to some degree or another. The order and position of the ships on Battleship row is wrong, as are the geography locations of the airfields.

The P-40 fighters are also much later versions. Additionally it suggests that the Japanese hit the ships and then went after the airfields, when in fact they hit both at the same time. Names, places, events, they all go in the grinder...

Just how little they cared in this movie about history is demonstrated wonderfully by Evelyn’s first appearance at Pearl Harbor, where she walks past a building emblazoned with the sign "Est. 1953"

At the end of the day, all the above films are exactly that, films, so who really cares if a few mistakes were made historically.

My theory (Conspiracy Theory #3) in my list of theories, is that the above movies were deliberately made inaccurate so that young High School kids who rent the film to study for History Exams fall short, and so that teachers around the globe can tell when students are doing so ....

It makes sense ...

Castiel - The Arc Angel Of Thursday

So my last post on Supernatural had me thinking of Castiel the Arc Angel character so i decided to do look him up. The writers of Supernatural include a number of biblical and occult references throughout the show and often the names of characters come from factual information, by factual im talking about biblical/occult information, which isn't exactly fact, but you get the idea!

Castiel is known for simply watching the events of the cosmos unfold with little interference.

He is often included in lists as being one of the seven archangels or the Angel of Thursday. The seven Arc Angel's all cover the seven days of the week.

Not much is known on him actually, however some references are found in occult books which i didn't happen to have handy, im not evil ... but other people on the world wide web got there hands on this little piece of info ...

"to procure the love of woman; to cause men to be merry and joyful; to pacifie strife and contentions; to appease enemies; to heal the diseased, and to disease the whole; and procureth losses, or taketh them away”

Castiel is an Angel of travel and new change, by travel it may be as simple as a trip in a car, or as complicated as a life journey of sorts.

The above does tie in with the show if you watch it, however i wont bore you with information most viewers already know. If you don't watch it, you just have to read up on it if this at all interests you, which it probably does if you have read this far!

Wolverine can't die!

Its crunch time for Baz, somewhere right now as you read this he is sitting in a caravan cutting and pasting bits of film together, swearing at himself but more importantly swearing at the suites at 20th Century Fox.

Well its those suites who have him sweating over the ending of his new film Australia.

Just a little warning before we continue, a possible ending of the film is revealed below but chances are 20th Century Fox will have it chopped and changed before the film is released.

3 months ago screen tests were held in a Chicago shopping mall showcasing from beginning to end the film Baz wanted to release, but apparently the mum's and dad's who watched didn't like one small facet of the films ending.

See Hugh Jackman is adored by many, in fact so many that 20th Century Fox argued relentlessly with Baz Luhrmann that Hugh just cant end up 6 feet under ...

Baz is notorious for unhappy endings, in an industry that likes to play things by the book, Baz thinks otherwise, and he had thought otherwise up until mum's in Chicago had to explain to there young ones that Wolverine was not dead, he was just having a nap ....

The talks between Luhrmann and the various suits at 20th Century Fox, which has wagered $US130 million on the most expensive Australian film of all time, were described as "intense".

You can see why. With just 15 days to go before the film's release, no one has seen a finished print! So if your sitting in a cinema and see a sweaty man in Armani in the back row, his job is probably riding on the films ending.

Either way, don't threat too much, chances are both cuts will be on the DVD release, but if the shopping mum's of Chicago are anything to go by then Hugh may just live to cattle drove another day ....

Guy Pearce has been a busy boy ...

Guy Pearce like many Australian actors still calls Australia home and commutes to America whenever a filming schedule requires it. He doesn't like to be called a "Movie Star" altho his passport papers have it written under employment information (It was a dare from a friend) & when he does end up in LA its usually for a quick visit.

Usually he gets a phone call in Melbourne and it's his casting agent and manager in LA scheduling a visit, "news gets around LA fast and when people hear Guy is heading over to LA they jump up and down hoping to get some time with him he is that in demand." say's his agent.

As much as Guy is in demand in Hollywood, he still finds the time to shoot Australian films such as The Proposition to date his best, when the chance arises, and that chance has yet again ...

Guy Pearce, is set to star in Animal Kingdom.

The board of Screen Australia has approved funding for the film which tells the story of 17-year-old Australian boy Joshua J Cody, who navigates his survival between an explosive criminal family and a cop who thinks he can save him.

The Screen Australia board approved a number of other films, projects include a film called Pangs, about a suburban vampire working as a Nightline crisis counsellor, and I Love You Too, a film about a man who befriends a dwarf after he breaks up with his girlfriend.

Funding of Australian films is a yearly event, i guess you could say that the Australian Film Industry sort out the crap from the gold and submit anything of merit for Government funding.

I for one however am eagerly awaiting a few of the approved films, especially a vampire working for a crisis hotline at night ....

Considering Hollywood is trying to make sequel, prequel, remake & re-boot's of every film imaginable, its good to see some inspired ideas coming from the land down under.

For those wondering what else Guy will be appearing in, he's going to be in cinemas often this year and next, with Adam Sandlers Bedtime Stories he plays a snoody Hotel Manager, First Snow sees him freak over the few words spoken to him by a psychic, Winged Creatures, another Australian film made in America sees him as a Doctor in a diner shooting with Kate Bekensale & there is also a small part in The Road which is directed by another Australian director who shot The Proposition with Guy some years back which is based on a novel by the writer of No Country For Old Men.

So the Guy's been busy, and i for one thank him for it ....

Sam gets number one because
a) i know him, hence all the bias
b) he has the talent to be the best ....

Hugh gets number two spot because he is loved by the whole world just for being Hugh, girls love him, guys love him, everyone wants to know him, and it shows in his films, even the actors around him pick up when he is on screen.

Clive Owen is probably the best male actor to come out of the UK in god knows how long, and he has the type of looks that you just know will get better with age, sort of like Sean Connery's did.

Kata Mara you may have noticed is one of only two females in the list and no its not that im sexist, nor due to her great acting, to be honest shes on there because shes probably the only female actor ive seen on screen that ive actually taken one look at and thought "I wish i knew her" ....

Guy Pearce was a no brainer for the list, after watching Memento & The Count Of Monte Cristo he was always destined to get a look in for my top 10, then he went on to make a heap of other great films and cemented his spot.

Peter Stormare is one of those actors who has talent yes but you like him in movies because he just has this creepy evil look about him that's just totally awesome for film and when he was cast as Lucifer in Constantine it was the most inspired piece of casting ever!

Ethan Hawk is really under rated, he's way more talented than his ex-wife and while im yet to see his full potential im adding him anyway, he just needs to pick better films, why is it that Keanu Reeves gets all these good films yet he cant act and Ethan gets the scraps ... altho Training Day was awesome!

Rose Byrne is probably the best Australian actor working today, id say Cate Blanchett but while shes half Australian, shes more English than Australian, but Rose is sort of trucking along in her career and is yet to see the highs of Hollywood like others on the list, but watch "The rage in placid lake" and you will see shes got the talent.

Downey Jr has always been around, yeah he chose the dark side for 10 years or so but he came back and while his fake Australian accent needs work ill give him a gold star for effort.

Finally Alan Arkin who's been in anything and everything for eon's ....
Funny Funny man and i do wish he was my boss, although if he was id just laugh
all day at work, he could tell me im fired and id still sit in the chair opposite him laughing!

90's Flashback

I was born in 82, and as a result most of the tunes that are the soundtrack to my life have come from the 90's and this one featured prominently while i was in High School just as portable CD players were the in thing .... i was in Big W over the weekend looking for a Batman animated two face figurine* and this song was on over the PA System!

*Didn't find two face but walking out of the place i caught an R2D2 T Shirt out of the corner of my eye and just had to buy it which proved to be the best decision ever considering the 1st day i wore it i got a comment from the young girl in the local bakery while purchasing muffins ...

Asked why he chose the role that's an ass of a character he replied with the following

"I'm uncannily bad at choosing films, generally. I'm going to give my daughter credit for that. She was 11 at the time. She asked me one day, bored out of her mind, she said, "Have you got any scripts that I can read?" And I said,"Sure, there's one here called The Devil Wears Prada."

She goes, "The Devil Wears Prada, I've heard about that book. I'll read that." She read it in record time. She came back and said, "Well, Dad, you know what, the character's a bit of a dick, but I really think you should do it."

Well i for one am eagerly waiting the film the man below is set to appear in soon which will be coming out next year The Last Man (may change title), its currently in pre-production.

Whats it about ?

A five-man team of Australian special forces troops are stuck behind enemy lines in the waning days of the Vietnam war, and with a cast list with Simon Baker along side Guy Pearce, Sam Worthington, Martin Henderson, Joel Edgerton, David Wenham & Vince Colossimo its looking good. Other cast are yet to be announced but expect more big names.

My hit sniffing abilities are flaring up on this one people!

If you don't know Sam Worthington now, wait a year and then you will, apparently he's the next Aussie to make the big time and hit the mother load in the good old US of A ....

He already has James Cameron's Avatar and McG's Terminator film with Christian Bale under his belt ... He missed out on the James Bond role to Daniel Craig by a whisker, so close was it, he even filmed scenes for the producers.

Of course he has been acting for some time and has appeared in loads of films and tv shows in Australia, so good luck to the guy.

Of course if he happens to tank in Hollywood i shall eat my humble pie ....

Something tells me that he wont tho when he has James Cameron singing his praises and pimping him out to other directors.

If you want to see any of his recent work, rent Rogue the crocodile movie he made with Michael Vartan in it which i thought was quite a good Aussie film. Its no Wolf Creek but i didn't like that film anyway.

Paul Hogan did his best to portray Crocodiles as lazy buggers who never get the guy in Crocodile Dundee but its much more fun when they do get there man ....

Many say his debut single is the most annoying ever written.

Now he’s offered something worth while But it’ll cost ya.

The last few years have had a growing theme, The Sequel.

Batman, Indiana, Bourne all came back for another pay cheque, as did the Hulk, Fantastic 4 and Johnny Depp dressed as a pirate once again for Disney.

Ill be honest with you, sequels, re-dubs, prequels and spin-offs are really hit and miss. For every Dark Knight (Thank you gods of scheduling for denying Katie Holmes a sequel) or Bourne film there is a Catwoman or Van Wilder II - Rise of Taj . . . *cough cough*was i drunk at the video store that time ? I think so . . .

Its inevitable Hollywood will spin out more crap before your $14.00 movie ticket seemed worth the price. Hell The Kingdom of The Crystal Skill was worth the 70 million to make purely for the term "Nuke the fridge" being added to the Hollywood vernacular.

So whats next ? What cinematic turd of a film will next be showing at a theatre near you . . .

Here are my entries for the "don't go there Hollywood" films i suspect we will look forward to in coming years.

MAD MAX - BEYOND THE BIT BEYOND THUNDERDOME

We came, we saw we conquered beyond thunderdome, now its time to go that little bit further. Mad Max was the film that gave you the first big screen appearance of Mel Gibson (dubbed horribly with an American voice by the way!). Immediate cult classic -spawned two sequels, one good, one not so much.

Logic: You could almost argue that a reboot has been attempted already with this year’s clunker Doomsday. But it’s not really a reboot unless they use the original title!

Classic Rock vs Modern Rock

I don't think a weekend goes by where at some point a classic rock song will be played over the radio and I'm asked, where did rock go wrong ?

This one is a touchy subject, im not aiming to bad mouth any rock that's come out recently, each to there own and to be honest modern rock does have its good points.

This is an argument i give a different answer to however. The question i usually ask back is, "Will the modern rock of today be considered classic rock in the far future ?"

I honestly don't think so, because the way i see it, bands today work differently to how they did in the past. Technology allows a tune being composed to be recorded to near perfection, digital sounding, clean, no mess etc

To some people that's fantastic, to others not so much. Part of the appeal of classic rock was the fact it was dirty rock. I remember one of the old Greenday album's back when they were more grunge than soft rock, during the recording of one of the songs which was recorded in the garage of one of the band members, you could hear a phone ring and a baby cry in the background.

The track was kept as recorded and its just one example of hundreds . . . .

Classic rock also has its stories to go along with the tunes unlike alot of today's rock that just seems to be processed track after track. I remember hearing about one of the Beatles tracks, recording went on into a song while Ringo went to the bathroom and he made it back just in time for his drum intro mid way through the song without missing a beat.

I guess the point i try to make is that its the small things like the above that are missing in modern rock. I know a few weeks back when AC/DC released there new single it immediately felt different to the stuff being released around it . . . kid rock - all summer long ???

If there is one thing i despise the most its young musicians taking classic tunes and turning them into pop melodies for tweens. I almost died when i overheard a group of girls who heard the original over a speaker in the mall ask who ripped kid rock off ?

Back on topic . . .

Maybe im wrong, perhaps in ten years time we will hear all the stories of the modern rock era and look back at bands like Fall Out Boy and think "wow what an era"

or maybe im ten years time we will look back at the modern rock of now and think "why why why did the record companies sell rocks soul for a few tween metrosexual's jumping around to pop beats disguised as rock.

All i know is that in 20 years time ill be able to answer the question im always asked.

Horsing Around

If there is one thing i admire about man, its our quality to overcome adversity.

A hungry horse got his owner into trouble last night when it treated a local service station as a ride-through snack bar.

Police were searching for the drunken rider after he refused to pay for flowers his horse ate while stopped outside the service station in West Sydney just after 9pm.

Well they found the drunk man and his flower happy horse.

The man, nicknamed "Cowboy" and his horse "Donkey" apologised for the trouble they made last night.

At the time of the incident the man was inside the store making a purchase while the horse ate the two bunches of flowers, each worth $20.

When the attendant confronted the rider, who appeared to be drunk, and asked him to pay, the man refused and a short scuffle erupted.

The police decided not to charge Cowboy with drink riding as no evidence could be found that he was over the limit. The service station staff accepted the apology.

Police have said it probably isn't the last they have seen of Cowboy and Donkey.

So what of overcoming adversity ?

My Childhood Education

Like every kid, most of my childhood education was not learnt on a chalk board, it was gained watching television. So i thought id take a look back at some of the shows that shaped me into the weird internet obsessed man i am today.

So here's the list which im sure would be vastly different to your own.

SKIPPY The Bush Kangaroo
For any Australian kid, this was an institution!

Produced from 1966 to 1968 Ninety-one 30-minute episodes were made over the three seasons of production.

It was practicaly mandatory to sit infront of the TV after school watching Skippy and his pal Sonny help people get out of all sorts of trouble. Who could forget Skippy putting out a bushfire, finding the arson suspect and getting home in time for dinner all in one day. She puts all other lazy kangaroo's to shame.

Educational TV helping kids rely on a Kangaroo putting out any fire they see while also knowing if ever in trouble all thats needed is to whistle into a leaf for help to arrive.

It was made before i was born but was repeated on television through the 80's and 90's.

The theme song to the show is known world wide and every kid usto pick up an eucalyptus leaf at some point and try to whistle through it. Didnt they ? I did . . . Hmmm

CHOPPER SQUAD
Anyone who has seen the American series Baywatch would probably have noticed that the format is an obvious rip-off of an Australian series which predated it by over ten years.

Chopper Squad was an action adventure series centred around a helicopter surf rescue team. The series portrays outdoor summer life with copious amounts of sun, surf, sand and bikini babes with a corny script thrown in.

Once again, made before i was born, a concurent theme on TV was to repeat classic shows each afternoon for a new generation of kids. I was about 9 when i watched this and spent many weekends dreaming of becoming a life saver.

The Genie From Down Under
A more modern choice from the mid 90's, this one revolved around an ancient Opal that a british girl finds in an Australian mansion which contains two Australian Genies Bruce and his son Baz.

The show was a success and was later superceded by the originaly named Genie From Down Under 2!

This one had Kangaroo's being kidnaped, sad british accents, slang australian accents (G'Day, Mate at the end of every sentence) and atleast one Kookaburra crowing each episode.

MACGYVER
I cant have a list without an American prime-time classic!

This one needs little description, the man who could do anything, watch him escape from a neuclear facility and then blow it up with nothing but a tooth pick, wrist watch and ball of string.

The theme song for this one is also known by almost anyone who hears it. Find me someone who did not enjoy this show, go on, i dare ya!

FULL FRONTAL / FAST FORWARD
Full Frontal retained the same general format as Fast Forward -Each was formatted like someone continuously channel surfing and after the punchline each sketch would abruptly switch to the next as if someone had switched channels.

It was part of the Australian comedy landscape for some time and launched many actors careers such as Eric Bana, most famous in Australia for his sketch POIDA, most famous elsewhere for TROY.

Needless to say Eric doesnt bring up his past too much when overseas.

and finally . . .

HEY HEY ITS SATURDAY!

Running for 27 years this was the be all and end all for anyone who didnt have a life on a Saturday night. basically a variety show with guests, music, reviews, dares, comedy etc

Most known for the stupid Ostrich named Ozzy and the jerk of a character named Dicky.Hey Hey continued to trudge on for 27 years and frankly, it really started to show.

The same old segments (Chook Lotto, Red Faces, Celebrity Head), the same old people (Plucka Duck, Red, Molly) and Daryl trying to bond with the "younger generation" was always embarrassing.

Those of you overseas, be thankful this one did not reach international syndication its like Letterman hanging with a pink sock puppet.

Well thats it . . . Just a sample of life infront of the TV set while growing up.

Tourists really are absent minded . . .

Today i met an American girl over here in Australia on a holiday. I asked her if she had been to any other countries other than Australia. Well apparently she has, she went to Hawaii a few years back.

If you read the above and you are wondering what the point was, you too are proof im right.

Granted the above was not anything related to Australia but it illustrates my point.

I remember the tourist from the US who asked me if there was a bridge from Australia to New Zealand. I told him he has no need for one, he can swim across when the tide is low.

I remember the guy who wanted to walk from one end the the great barrier reef to the other. Never mind the fact its larger than Italy!

Tourists wondering if there are drugs in vegemite and i read in one newspaper that someone called our tourisim hotline to ask if milk is available all year round ???

It is . . .

Im sure we Australian's are just as daft when we visit America.

So to end this post i figured id submit a few interisting facts about Australia for any future tourists, some i did not consider facts worth telling but upon doing research people seemed surprised at some of the facts below.

-There are 2 kangaroo's for every Australian, they are however mostly outside the urban areas.

-The worlds longest man made structure is in Australia. Its known as the Rabbit Proof Fence. The fence starts at Ceduna in South Australia and follows an erratic course to the New South Wales border. It runs north into Queensland and now terminates near Dalby (Toowoomba area) with a total distance now of 5131 km. Its there to keep rabbits out, and also to stop dingo's killing livestock.

For those of you who say what about the Great Wall Of China ? Well thats a series of walls and is not a single structure.

-35% of Australia's population was born overseas.

-All children attend school until they are atleast 16 and all children have a school uniform to wear which is compulsary.

-If you dont vote in Australia you are fined and risk prison time. Likewise if you dont wear a seatbelt.

Australian Idol Top 12 - Pepe's Pick - Wes Carr

Every year it becomes increasingly difficult to watch Australian Idol. For every fantastic find there are about 20 singers who should have been born mute, hell one girl annoys me when she talks, let alone sings.

There is some light at the end of the Idol tunnel tho, his name is Wes Carr from Sydney.

Carr has created a troublesome identity for himself since he was expelled from school in Adelaide and wound up alone in Sydney at 15.

He became a folk singer doing acoustic sets in Sydney pubs before silverchair drummer Ben Gillies decided to do a side project.

Gillies was introduced to Carr through record company reps and the pair hit it off.
They formed indie rock band tambalanne in 2003, at a time when Daniel Johns called a go-slow on silverchair to indulge his own side project with Paul Mac.

Tambalane gigged around the pub scene but struggled to rise above it with its folk-influenced blend of 60s and 70s classic rock.

An “unpleasant power struggle”, according to Gillies, saw the silverchair veteran dissolve Tambalane in 2005, and Carr go off to do a solo project.

Having struggled with no success as an indie artist, oz idol would be his last throw of the dice.

A Truly Bittersweet Symphony

So i was kicking back listening to the new Verve album, which kicks ass by the way and it got me thinking about that bittersweet symphony that was the single bittersweet symphony.

The tale goes back to when the single came out in the UK and took over the world . . . The Verve had paid the Rolling Stones the rights to use the violins you hear in the song

Note : McJagger bought the rights to them from a classical composer and used it in a Stones single.

One day jagger was driving through London in his car and heard the Verve's single on the radio and went nuts! Why ? Because when the Verve paid him to use the violins it was with the understanding that they would only be used at the beginning and the end of the song.

As we all know, that didnt happen!

The Verve liked them so much they based the song around the violins and released it. Jagger took them to court twice. The first of which ended with 50% of the singles royalties ( the money made through air play ) going to jagger.

The second case saw the remaining 50% of the royalties go to the Rolling Stones . . .

So in a bittersweet moment the Verve had the hottest track going around radio yet Jagger was making all the money from it.

The verve broke up shortly after and its said one of the key reasons was due to the song bittersweet symphony.

Its no surprise that there official myspace page does not have the song on it as they wont play it again.

So what have we learnt ?

a) Jagger is a money hungry grouch
b) The new Verve album rocks its socks off

Lets hope the Verve make loads of cash off the new single . . . They deserve every cent !

Oh Pickle how i loathe thee . . .

Ever since i was a kid ive had a thing against MacDonalds burgers. Its a flawless argument ive had, the pickle should be a request item and not on every burger. A majority of people take the pickle off the burger before eating it and MacDonalds even released a TV ad showing people taking the burger, removing the pickle and throwing it on the MacDonalds window (The pickle not the burger!)

Today however i found out exactly WHY they do indeed place a pickle on each burger.

The Food Standards Of Australia Board basicaly told the corporates at Mac D's that they were classifying the burgers as "confectionary" due to the high salt, sugar and fat content. Mac D's asked if it could be classified as "Food" if 2 vegetables are on it and they got a yes answer, hence why we have lettuce and a pickle on each burger.

I understand how trying to get a point across can sometimes over shadow a larger issue as was the case when an eco-fuel company in Sweeden advertised how bio friendly there fuel was.

Im 26 and i was curious to give the nozzle a suck myself. It got me thinking on the massive market that could be out there for drinkable petrol. Numerous flavors would be introduced and im sure MacDonalds could give a sample with each Happy Meal.

You could also fill your car and your kid in one stop.

I think im onto something . . .

This is a random bitch about those who find it necessary to slow down to see car accidents.

It amazes me that every day i travel to work someone manages to get into a car accident while driving in a straight line. Its not difficult to keep a few metres back from the car in front of you, but no, thats too complicated for some people.

I guess it should be expected seen as tho the RTA give anyone who can reach the pedals a licence.

Its always some a*hole who as an accident in peak hour while some even bigger a*hole slows down to see the result there of.

Texas schools are now allowing teachers to carry weapons into class to curb school violence.

WONDERFUL

If it were to happen here in Australia, this is what a classroom would look like tomorrow.

Why ?

Because parents wouldnt be insane enough to allow there kids into a class with a gun in it.

So what is to be the outcome of this proposal. Yes, kids will think twice about talking back to the teacher and on the PLUS side of things i can see a whole new group of people can apply to become teachers.

It seems the education system caught on that there was a market out there for gun totting fanatics who are unemployed and looking for work.

All the racists were busy applying to work for border security & the pedofiles for the Catholic Church so i can see why they aimed elsewhere.

New season, new aspirations.

Towards the end of last season fans like myself were just aspiring to see bolton play premier league football once again the following year. Well it happened and a new season is upon us.

After the performance against Stoke I am concerned and have reason to, the defence had a few brain snaps, after going ahead by 3 goals Bolton switched off. But positives were found.

The midfield looks good with Mubamba in the centre with Nolan, and Elmander showed he is not shy of running for any ball. Davies is Davies as usual, always to be counted on.

Another quality striker would be a dream, i know Riga has not played yet so im unsure of his quality, if i had it my way id probably get Shevchenko on loan from Chelsea, im sure Anelka could help us out and whisper a few things into his ear.

That probably wont happen tho, Bolton will make do with what small squad they have, just dont be surprised if you see the ball boy getting a start up front later in the season.

Fingers crossed for a good showing this time round.

The farce that is 7's Olympic Coverage

Im in a very bad mood, ive taken a day or more to cool down but im still not happy with the Australian Advertising Agency that is Channel 7.

Im a keen football fan and ive watched hundreds upon hundreds of games, too many to count even, however, for the first time in history that i can recall i witnessed ad's being placed randomly throughout a football match which was said to be "Live" . . .

Yes as we were running down the left flank ready to pass to a central midfielder CUT "Are you interested in a waterproof laptop, Libby Lenton has one!"

As we get behind the ball to defend another Argentinian onslaught at goal CUT "Thankyou to all the mums who helped all kids reach there sporting goals"

Finally gaining possession and getting a pass together CUT "McDonalds, a proud partner . . . "

Now i have nothing against the mum's of sport or Libby Lentons laptop, but surly the 20 minute half time period is enough of a gap to plug both of these things and not every 20 minutes throughout the game.

The case above is just one example involving football, if i sat here and commented on every other sport that had Lentons laptop making an appearance every 20 minutes id be here all night.

Praise the gods of TV tho because next olympics Foxtel will have the rights. Yes i know many people will miss out but its a sacrifice that has to be made to ensure coverage is atleast on par with international standards.

Oh and 7 , next time you spruke an event as being live, please ensure it is live and not a feed thats an hour late, thats what they call a delayed telecast people. If its not within 5 minutes of the event occuring then its not live.

A slap on the wrist for 7, but the olympic coverage isnt over yet and a spanking may be needed if this continues.

Oh and as i type this, well done SBS who have managed to get it right, currently 72-72 China vs Spain in Basketball, overtime needed, and not an add during play in sight.

After a night out on the town i noticed a few things that irked me, the most alarming of which ? Romance is dead! or atleast its slowly dying a horrible death.

Manners :

When i enter a room i usualy do hold the door open for a la'amour who may be entering, i dont expect a thankyou but usually i get a nod of approval or a thanks but alas this is no more, infact i get weird looks from women who fear i may be up to something!

"Beware the pervert opening doors for women!"

Ill assume thats whats whispered between those in the room.

Sweet Chastity :

Once upon a time, we would persue the love of a woman by whispering sweet nothings into her ear, writing poetry or song for her. Women were wooed for some time before finally she accepted your love and the happily ever after part comes after that.

Today however, the persuit is much shorter and usually involves consuming as much alcohol as possible until courage is used to ask her back to your place. Morning after ? Regret kicks in sometimes, other times a quick goodbye is said and the cycle continues.

Not all love is dead, people will marry, have children, love them, live happily etc . . .

There are a few of us who still believe in these principles and thankfully they still remain.

But its not what it was, Ze moon! Ze June! Ze spoon! C'est l'amour!! C'est toujours!

Another Google Street Catastrophy!

Getting blind drunk after a funeral some guy colapses on a front lawn with a photo taken by the google car some hours later.

Last week when Google launched its Street View tool for Google Maps, that picture was on display for anyone with an internet connection to see. It has since been taken down after it was flagged by users.

"I'm not too happy about it - I mean, I shouldn't have been there in the state that I was in but I wasn't really thinking there would be someone driving past with a video camera on the roof filming me either," Bill, who spends around 10 months of the year fishing off Darwin, said via satellite phone.

The issue highlights some of the concerns voiced by privacy activists, who say that while Street View is a great tool for armchair explorers, people are not given the choice of whether they or their houses appear on the site.

Honestly, as sympathetic as i am for a mate dying it has nothing to do with Google Street and if you so happen to decide to lay down on the grass for a few hours then any number of people can take as many photos as they want, if privact was wanted then thats what a bed it for.

This reminds me of a friend Ben who got drunk with us in QLD, we lost him, came home in the morning where he told us he woke up in a gutter covered in rice, about 3 kilos worth! Who knows how many people took his photo however we know of one as we found him on a website some months later.

So to the guy who was caught by google, just be thankful it was not any worse, this could have been you!

Olympics : Australia vs Argentina

"No dont pass me the ball" "you keep it" "no you keep it" "no i dont want it"

For a good 15minutes that was what was said between the Argentinian defence.

It was billed as david vs golaith. The current gold medal holders against a bunch of part timers coached by a failed national coach. To be honest Australia were lucky to loose by only 1 goal, Argentina were not very sharp infront of goal.

After around the fifteen minute mark i got sick of the blatant bias comentator channel 7 had hired and put my TV on mute. Football goes surprisingly well with a soundtrack of Groove Armada.

The most annoying aspect of the game was a fifteen minute period just after Argentina scored where it seemed nobody on either team wanted the ball so 3 players spent a good while just passing it to each other more casualy than in a training session. Finally after enough booing from the crowd Argentina actually decided to do something with it.

It was not all bad tho, a few Australians did well and worked hard, Neil Kilkenny and Matthew Spiro to name a few. Spiro i believe has the potential to be one of our best ever defenders surpassing even Lucas Neill. Its a big call but quote me now.

Ok, i saw a list of the fastest selling grocery items in Australia today, so i thought id post it. No real reason why i am i just wanted to. oh and chilled babyfood is either being bought in bulk or at a 790% increase in sales, the cost of petrol realy is hitting people, i know id rather eat babyfood for a year than live without my plasma tv, ipod and broadband internet connection and it seems others may agree.

So Google Street was launched a few days ago and already people are complaining, over here in Australia an entire city decided they did not want to be a part of the whole thing so stuck signs on all there roads saying "Do not enter" hopeing the guy in the google car would skip them, well he didnt, aparently he saw the signs, was told not to take the photos but thought what the hell and took them anyway. BooHoo.

Other people are complaining its an invasion of privacy to stand on the street (government owned) and take a picture of there house. Using there way of thought, if a man walks down there street and turns and looks at your house, he is invading your privacy, so take him to court!

I guess there is a fine line here, if google launched "Google House" and decided to take photos of everyones lounge and kitchen then people could say its an invasion of privacy, take a photo of the front lawn and people say its not an invasion.

Mind you Google Earth has been around for a year or so now and that shows an arial view of most front and backyards so if people are going to complain, why not back then.

All i know is that atleast one guy has a right to complain after Google snaped his car out the front of his ex girlfriends house. Ouch!

Im peeved because my house was not photographed. Is it too trashy for Google Street or something ? Why my street and not the one aligned next to mine ? Do we smell ? or did the Google Car just decide a street of one story suburban brick homes was just the same as another and didnt worry. Either way i want answers . . .

Ok i should atleast give a little info on who i am.

Im Matt White a 26 year old Australian coasting my way through life. By coasting i mean i manage to successfuly navigate it (all 26 years thus far) without any major accomplishments or problems. Altho i did win a teachers choice award in grade six, hmmm moving on,

I love in Sydney Australia, work full time in Banking, the irony being i profoundly sucked at math and still do, however luckily for me most jobs today are so mundane due to automation all thats required is basic computer knowledge.

Im a nester (at home with parents) and proud of it, as a result of my selfishness in staying home and not renting or buying property i have every tech gadget around, plasmas, ipods, blue ray, PS3, el tal . .

If i had to quickly list any passions of mine, soccer would be the number one with a bullet, both playing and following, oh god help my beloved Bolton FC. Massive movie buff, collect dvd's i have hundreds.

Most of my blogs will either be on topic of interest to me such as soccer, movies, music, television etc and mostly me bitching and moaning on how incompedent people managed to completly f*#k up and chance they had of a career in the above industrys knowing fully well i couldnt do any better.

Need to know any more, then ask . . .

Welcome to the utter time wasting ramblings of Matt (Me) which will be be kept on this page
until im either blocked from use or i grow bored and abandon the whole thing.

Right now im feeling that if i get to say my tenth blog and not one person has even viewed it then the whole internet blog world is just way out of my league.

Oh and by the way, i am quite possibly the worst speller this side of the hemisphere (Southern)
id say worst in the world but if you include all those people who have bigger problems than reading and writing (ie - third world hunger) then in perspective my bad spelling isnt exactly a huge issue.

Feel free to berate me with abusive correctley spelt language at any timeit starts to annoy you.
